I'm afraid that this report is going to destroy the faith that Philip Y, of Ontario, has in me. Until now, he thought I could do anything.
This was the result of his getting 5000 Euros which another casino had held for almost two years after I wrote a single e-mail to them. This so impressed him that he immediately asked for assistance with his dispute with Casino Last Minute -- failing to let me know that its entire site is in Italian.
To tell the truth, despite the best efforts of Grandpa and Grandma Russo to get me parlare come un italiano reale, my command of the language is, at best, limited and it took me quite a while to work my way through its Terms and Conditions.
Even worse, all that work was wasted.
In January, Philip deposited 200 Euros at the casino, won 1800 Euros, and then tried to cash out.
World Match, a Malta-based company which runs Casino Last Minute, sent Philip an e-mail saying, "We regret to inform you that the documents you provided us with were not validated by your bank. In view of this your gaming account will be closed and your name reported to the Lotteries & Gaming Authority in Malta."
Philip wrote back, telling World Match that "I have provided all the documents that are necessary to prove the documents on my account.
"I have provided my VISA card scans, my VISA card statements showing the deposits to my account, my bank's utlity bill to prove my address, my Canadian Passport, and a CERTIFICATION from my lawyer that the above documents are real."
He added, "I have a notarized copy of my passport by my lawyer to prove that my document is real.
"You may also call my lawyer to confirm my passport.
"These transactions are also real.
"I could provide a TD VISA statement bill where your casino billed my account on the money that I have deposited."
Their response? As the headline for this report says, "Silenzio".
As that long list of Terms and Conditions on their website shows e-mail addresses both for World Match and Play Match, I wrote to both of them.
Di nuovo, non ci era risposta. ("Again, there was no response".)
Well, I may not have been able to help Philip this time, but at least I was able to warn others about Casino Last Minute -- and even got to brush up on my Italian while doing so.
